I would argue that this machine is probably underpowered for what you  
are doing with it.  My guess is it has a single disk (or RAID1), and  
not a ton of RAM, either, right?


Upgrade it....Dual 2GHz P4s, 2G RAM, 4 disks in a RAID 10 would do  
you much better.
