Hello, There don't seem to be any serious outstanding issues with 1.39.x and the documentation is "reasonably" complete. You may be aware that I have been planning to release Bacula version 1.39.x (with an appropriate version change) to production around now. This would allow approximately 4 weeks before I leave on vacation (a real vacation from 15 Sept to 11 Nov). >From past releases, I have noticed that it takes two or three weeks after a production release until the "serious" bugs are found, and they are usually rather quickly fixed with "patch" releases (i.e. 1.40.1, 1.40.2, ...).
Bacula 1.39.x is quite stable, as mentioned above, but there are still quite a number of untested changes (e.g. data encryption, 2 drive autochanger behavior, the new database records, ...), so were I not leaving on vacation in the near future, I would probably wait another two or three weeks for these items to be tested and for more problems to show up and be resolved before doing a production release. So, it seems to me a decision must be made and that we have a few possibilities: 1. Make several more beta releases of 1.39.x before I leave on vacation (i.e. between now and roughly 10 October) and hold the official production release until mid-November after my return. 2. Release Bacula 1.39.x in the next couple of days even though it may be less tested and less stable in some areas than I would like. 3. Make the production release in a week or two -- say the end of September. My conservative side says to go with option 1 because it is the only option that will permit a reasonably fast resolution to any serious problems that might show up (i.e. I will be available for several months after the release). Option 2 is nearly as conservative as option 1 except there is the possibility that something serious may not show up for another month or two. Option 3 is for me the least satisfactory because it means that there is a high probability of a problem showing up that cannot be resolved for 3 or 4 weeks. I would appreciate your thoughts on this. I especially encourage those of you who are already using 1.39.x to speak up.
