Quoting James Harper <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > Can anyone recommend a good external usb2 enclosure for 3.5" harddisks?
I've read good things about the CRU Dataport products, though I have no experience with them myself. http://www.cru-dataport.com/ They appear to have many lines, from basic plastic to aluminum and steel. Some of their lines include an external docking station with USB 2.0. Another approach, though limited to firewire only (not USB - so it might not work in your environment) but has some other benefits is the AMS Venus DS3R two-drive unit. I received one yesterday, plan to work with it a bit next week to see how it works as a backup device. It's ~$150 for the unit, ~$20 per tray (aluminum which is a plus, but it leaves one side of drive exposed, so not really handbag compatible). The best part is that it includes a built in hardware RAID-1 function. It also includes RAID-0/SPAN/JBOD. Recent revisions are controlled via dip switches on the unit instead of software that bit twiddles over firewire - you want this more recent version. The DS3R might be handy in some situations, such as keeping a current on-site backup, plus an off-site one? -brendan ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
