My best guess is that 'ssh -X' was the default for whatever reason. I've
experienced this before. I'm not sure if this is a compile time option
as well as a config option and a command line flag, but I've seen cases
where I needed -X and some where I didn't. Safest is using -X
(conversely, -x makes sure it's off).
