Best/fastest way I have found to restore is to do it by directory.
Significantly faster than the other methods since a list doesn't need to be 
generated for the user to select.

I think what I usually have been doing is to start a backup before date.. 
get the jobids, cancel.. then restore by folder using the job ids.  

As for the space used by Bacula to keep track of all the data..
Our weekly full backups do about 7 million files. Our dailies do about 200K 
to 500K.. The postgresql DB space in use is 15GB.
