Rob,
you made a mistake when you configured your FileSet.
At the end of page 163 of the User Manual, you'll find
the following information:

"If you are entering Windows file names, the directory
path may be preceded by the drive and a colon (as in
c:). However, the path separators must be specified in
Unix convention (i.e. forward slash (/))."

Right.

The example FileSet at page 165 illustrates this.
As per your previous message, you used backward
slashes, not forward slashes:

Contents of paru-gollum.include:
C:\Documents and Settings\paru\Local
Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

I think you won't be able to restore your files. But I
could be wrong (I hope so) -- any seasoned user
willing to chime in?

Well, there has been some such problem recently, and it was, IIRC, solved by using a hand-tailored version of bextract. You might find something in the bacula-devel list archives, it was a mail exchange between Kern and (at first) Timo Eissler.

Good luck to Rob!

Changed the restore job to point to the specified
folder name, and I still get the same error:

22-May 18:05 frodo-fd: Restore.2006-05-22_18.05.41
Error: Cannot create directory C:/restore/C/\Documents and Settings\paru\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook: ERR=The system cannot find the path specified.

So I still have two questions:
1. How can I restore this file to the Windows FD?
or
2. How can I restore this file to the Linux FD since
I backed it up using the "portable" option?

Thanks,
Rob
