I was looking to change our backup software and ran accross Bacula. It

Fresh install of FC5
My make fails in the dird, stored and tool directory.
I've installed mysql and ran the bacula supplied scripts to set
permissions and
create database and tables.
I would recommend you to use rpm packages, they should install nicely to
FC5.
If you definetely want to build by yourself, maybe you could leave this
until (not if!) you've decided to seriously start using Bacula. Propably
tomorrow? ;-)
Seriously, I think it's not a good idea to install self-compiled non-rpm
binaries, when you don't have to.
I guess the "not have to" part is what can be discussed a lot... There
are some software packages I usually install from source, and I think I
have god reasons to do so (in well defined cases).
But that's not what I wanted to discuss now :-)
So, when it's time to build by yourself,
maybe you should conseder building a rpm of your own instead? Bacula rpm
source package contains everyting you need but a simple rpmbuild command
with a couple of options (to define the use of FC4 and mysql4, yes it's ok
for FC5 + mysql5 too)
John, what we'd need is output showing the errors.
I suspect that you have messages concenring libbac IIRC, and I suspect
that you did 'configure; make install'.
If that's the case, try 'configure && make && make install' instead. If
thats been the problem I know the answer because this has been discussed
more than once recently on this list.
