I have some large backup sets that are fairly static. Thus, I'd like to have full backups go to tape but use a disk drive to store diffs. The full jobs will be run manually but I'd like the diffs to run on a weekly schedule. Is this possible?

Yes.

I tried creating a separate job for the diffs but since it is different, Bacula wants to upgrade it to full (which makes sense now that I think about it).

:-)

So if this is possible, it must have to be configured in the existing job.

No, but almost right...

I've Googled but can't seem to use a relevant search string. Any kicks to docs or previous posts appreciated.

You do this in the schedule by overiding the pool and/or storage setting.

Although, in your case, I'd simply set up the jobs to go t disk, _not_ set the Full/Differential/Incremental Pool directives, _not_ set up any overrides in the schedule, and remember to run the initail jobs manually before they are scheduled.

As long as you want all your full backups to start manally, that seems the easiest solution.

Keep in min that, unless you're using a very recent, i.e. beta version of Bacula, restoring from more than one device is not possible without manual intervention.

Arno

Thanks,

Drew
