I have Bacula 1.38.2 throughout and need to backup and restore linux and Win32 machines. Is this version stable and able to restore to win32 and linux without issue? If not, what version should I move to for stability and safe operation?

I'd use 1.38.5 where possible. There are some fixes and minor improvements. Details can be found in the Releasenotes file, available, for example, in SourceForges cvs browser.

Even better, there's no need to update all your clients or the catalog, updating the DIR should be enough. I would strongly recommend to update the SD too, though.

ps. Bacula helps me sleep better!

I think that's what many users think... I, for example, do, too.
