thanks for the hint. But unfortunately there is no backup user under WinXP Pro.

There is a group named "Backup Operators" Any memeber of this group can backup encrypted files, or files they would otherwise not be able to read, by allowing them to bypass all filesystem security. Adding the backup user to this group should allow the files to be backed up.

The system account doesn't work either.

I don't understand why it does not work when I run the file daemon under the
account of the encrypting user. I had expected that the encryption was
transparent to all programs running under the same account.

I wish I could answer this, running bacula as someone who has transparent 
access to the file should work.
