Arno,

Why do you assume that I had not read the release notes at the time I sent
the email or that I had not done it before I did the upgrade?

Because the way you asked implied that to me. Unfortunately, you just didn't tell us what you did or not did.

And, after all, I have seen many occasions where people just did not do the obvious - like reading installation instructions when installing software - so I learned that the safe thing is to verify even what you could consider the most basic facts. Hell, I've even done these mistakes myself, and I was glad when someone pointed me to the right direction.

I am insulted at your accusations.

That's definitely not something I wanted to do, sorry. I wouldn't accuse you of anything, and, while I admit that people sometimes tell me I tend to be snappy or arrogant, accusing or insulting anyone is generally something I try to avoid. It's also possible that my comments are understood harsher than I intend - English is not my first language.

I know you feel that everyone on here is
dumb but you, but you are wrong.

Then you know more than I do.

There are plenty of competent Admins on
this list that do a good job.

Definitely, and I'm glad about that. After all I learn a lot through this list.

The entire point lists like this is to have
PEERS that are available to confer with regarding matters such as this.

Right, so I could re-phrase my previous answer to something like "watch for the autochanger resource in SD configuration."

I was simply asking what others on the list felt were the biggest NEW
features they implemented when they upgraded from 36 to 38, not what the
documentation says, but what others in productions environments has
implemented, something we talk about on here all the time... I run my backup in a production environment and I do not want to experiment
with new config options, which I may not fully understand or comprehend all
implications of using said config options.

Well, you didn't tell us that. So, as is often the case, given only little insight into your setup, I couldn't give a detailed answer.

In the future when replying to posts, I would recommend trying to NOT assume
that everyone is stupid...

Thanks for that suggestion. In fact, and for your peace of mind, I don't exchange mails with people I consider stupid. This, of course, doesn't imply that I consider anyone whose mails I don't answer stupid, that's got more to do with not having anything useful to contribute or to not having the necessary time.

If you still feel offended by the way I express my ideas I can only recommend to simply ignore my mails. On the other hand, you might consider that the fact that I take the time to read your mail and to answer to it - which not everybody else did - shows that, after all, I think it's worth my time. I wouldn't do that if I thought I was writing to stupid people.

Arno

Hello all,

I just upgraded my bacula server (and all clients) to 1.38 from 1.36 and I have not changed any of my config files yet.

I was wondering what the list feels are the most important things that will need to change in the conf files for the dir, sd, and fd?

Actually, I don't think it matters much what the list feels.

The best thing for you to do now is to read the release notes.

I would have been wise to do that before the upgrade, by the way.

Arno

Any thoughts?
