Somewhere in this thread I think I recall reading LVD :-)

The limits on single ended scsi cable runs are insanely short, which is why LVD is so useful.

I'd even say that is why SE SCSI is so useless... even inside a server you can easily need the whole allowed cable length... well, that technology had its time.
