Well, you are working with version 1.36.3 and referring to the 1.38.2 (or 
possibly 1.38.3) manual.  The procedures are different.  If you have a 2.6 
kernel, you will need to upgrade to the new version rescue disk (1.8.2), 
which can be used with 1.36.3 source code.  Otherwise, if you have a 2.4 
kernel, the old procedures as documented in the 1.36.3 manual *should* work.

As long as you do not do a second "make install" there is no risk of 
disrupting your running Bacula with the above procedure.  Version 1.8.2 does 
most of it automatically for you ...

PS: Version 1.8.2 will be loaded in the next hour or so ...
