I wouldn't recommend that personally. A better choice is to edit your
/etc/ld.so.conf* (I think RH uses a .d directory) to make sure that's in
there, or to specify a location on the configure line. Mixing /usr/lib
and /usr/lib64 could be a problem down the line.

Yea, not so nice :-( I guess the tag mysql4 is not really implement even if
it is documented, or at least, it is only implemented on a couple of systems
(Mandrake I think) because they probably have non-standard locations.
Why don't you simply try using --define "build_mysql 1", which is what I
would use here for the installed MySQL.
Sorry, I cannot give you a definitive answer, but I am not the expert in this
area ...
