So, if Bacula keeps the data as long as it can, what is the meaning of the Volume Retention and
Auto Prune? Maybe the Auto Prune has no effect on the Volume Retention because the Client's
Job and File Retention are longer? Should they be the same as the Volume Retention period?

I have a similar problem.
I can explain, however, that media that is in an Append state will NOT
be recycled. Bacula keeps the data as long as it can.
However, my problem with the Used volumes is the same. My volumes are
set for Max Use of 6 days... then they are marked Used... I then use a
different tape for 6 days, and go back to the first one. I always have
to manually purge the tape. The retention time is less than 7 days, so I
don't understand my issue either.
Thanks for bringing this up -- I've been too lazy to write in about it. ;)
