At least for the part of moving from disk to tape, this is essentially Project
#1 in the list of projects that I recently sent. If all goes well, it will
be in beta testing at the end of Q1 2006 and completed by mid-2006.

The archiving part (removing from the catalog ...) can currently be done
manually or using a script but there is no automatic way to do it -- this is
something that needs thought ...
