You are trying to use shell syntax with a pipe, but I think the mailcommand
has to be of the form:
program arg1 ... argn
It should work if you create a shell script to take the subject and recipient
args and invoke qmail-inject.

I RE-read the docs and realised that the mailcommand takes the message
on stdin. So while my test worked, it sent no message. I do not believe
I can use qmail-inject in this way ( input in a list of args AND as
stdin ). Yes a shell script would be best there.
Currently I am working again with bsmtp and I have discovered it works,
but CHKUSER is rejecting the messages due to sender format issues. So I
ahve a few things to work out yet.
