Thank you for your responses. I seem to have it working now. I set the default pool to Full so that if any jobs get upgraded they will go in the correct pool. The main confusion, which I already mentioned but will reiterate is/was:

1. I would have thought or hoped that somehow the pool could explicitly be tied to the type of backup. 'Twould be nice if upgraded jobs could go to the pool for that job. My JobDefs has:

  Pool = Full
  Full Backup Pool = Full
  Incremental Backup Pool = Inc
  Differential Backup Pool = Diff

...so I don't know if it is working correctly because of the default (Pool=Full) or whether it is really paying attention to Full Backup Pool = Full for jobs upgraded to Full.

2. The scheduled jobs in `status dir` does not seem to have any correct knowledge of which volume the job will go to. Arno had said: "guessed volume is almost never the one a job goes to". I understand this is a known issue? My problem was aggravated because I deleted the normal default pool from my config so it appears my volume which was set to Append got attached to a new pool? I was mistakenly assuming it was writing to the wrong pool. It's the right pool but the wrong volume (in a way).

All in all we're back on track after some rather confusing trial and error.

Thank again.

Cheers,
Michael
