Hi,

I suppose this was meant for the list, so I send my answer there, too.

Hello Arno,

unfortunately, it doesn't work at my system.
It keeps standing in wx-console at "Applying restore configuration changes

Ah. Do you use the graphical restore tab, or do you use the command line?

I found that the graphical restore doesn't work for me, but I never investigated this.

If I don't change the client the restore-job starts immediately.

I experienced something similar: I changed the device, and the command didn't do anything. Looking in the console tab, I saw that it did some changes infinitely, and I could only stop this by closing the connection to the DIR.

Might be something similar for you.

If I do it with the normal restore-command, I get the following answers:

Run Restore job
JobName: RestoreFiles
Bootstrap: /var/bacula/restore.bsr
Where: /tmp/bacula-restores
Replace: always
FileSet: Full Set
Client: b-fd
Storage: Backup-DLT-1
When: 2005-10-05 12:40:05
Catalog: MyCatalog
Priority: 10
OK to run? (yes/mod/no): yes
Job started. JobId=672
#messages
You have no messages.
#status dir

That's one thing that might be interesting - after all, sometimes the director needs some time to start a job, especially if you've got other things running in-between.

The job should show up in the running jobs, though.

<snip>

Running Jobs:
No Jobs running.

Not good...

I didn't experience such problems using 1.36.3, but I'm not sure if I ever did a restore to another machine with that version.

To further investigate, you could run the DIR with debug output captured and see what that tells you. A debug level of 100 should be ok to see if the job is actually started.

Good luck,

Arno

The connection to b-fd is fine. This is the output:

Hello,

Hello list !!!

I want to do a restore from a backup of one server to another.
More specific:

I backup server "a" and want to restore the files of server "a" to server "b" in path /tmp/restore (for example).

If tried it with wx-console and looked into the docu, but I

didn't find

a way to do this.

Is it possible to do such a restore ?

Yes.
You select which jobs to restore (in your case, the complete contents of server a). When that is done, bacula asks for where (the path: /tmp/restore) and the client (where the data will go to (b-fd in your case, assuming you use "standard" naming conventions).

That's it, or should be at least.

The background in this case is, that I want to move server

a to a new

hardware, but
server "a" should run on it's ip and with it's name.

Ok, I can do this with tar and scp and so on, but I

thought, if I have such

a wonderful backup-system, I can use it for this ;-))))))

Good idea... although in such a "simple" case I would probably use rsync, scp, or tar...

Thanks very much !!!!

Always a pleasure to support the bigger companies :-)
