hi, I have been looking for a Network backup solution for quite some time now. I came across Bacula and c that it does fulfill quite a few of my requirements. I am looking to implement this solution in a live production environment. I have been experimenting with it for some time now and had some doubts in mind :
The clients(users) would largely be using aWindows-based O.S. (Win 98, Win XP,Win 2k). I have installed the Bacula Server1.36.3 on a linux machine. The clients would be initiating the backup manually using the wx-console. I have observed that when the client uses the "run" command, it takes the Backup Level to be "Incremental" (after the first run). I could "mod" this level to Differential/Full depending upon my backup plan. The bacula-client would be running on the end-users laptop, who do not understand the relevance of setting up an appropriate Backup level. So, is there any way of automatically setting the Backup level to say "Differential/Incremental/Full" on the basis of a predefined backup plan ? I mean if the user hits a "run" on a weekday, then the backup level has got to be automatically set to "Incremental". If the user hits a "run" on a 2nd, 3rd or 4th Sunday, then the backup level has got to be automatically set to "Differential". I am aware that i can define a "Schedule" in the bacula-dir.conf, which will run on its own depending upon the date. But I am not looking to implement an automatic schedule. The users have got to be able manually initiate a backup with the help of the wx-console, without the need to specify backup level (Inc/Diff/Full). Is there any way to achieve this ? -mahesh. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: Power Architecture Resource Center: Free content, downloads, discussions, and more. http://solutions.newsforge.com/ibmarch.tmpl _______________________________________________ Bacula-users mailing list Bacula-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/bacula-users
