Hello everyone,
a couple of months ago i made a question to the list about bacula-sd eating a lot of CPU time in system space while writing to big disk volumes (45 Gb each). Bacula is 1.36.3, OS is RH4AS, partitions were ext3, about 1 Tb each.
After various tries with kernel and kernel parameters i mounted disk partitions as ext2 instead of ext3 and the problem disappeared (at least in the last 3 runs). Also there was a 10/15 % speed increase also in normal behaviour.
Because in the volume partitions there is a small number of files and because if you have a system crash bacula volumes open during the crash are not very significant i think that using EXT2 intead of EXT3 is not a big issue.
