On most upgrades, the index should not be lost, because generally an upgrade
adds new columns or new tables. Now, if an index is lost during a
modification of a table to add a new column, there would be a big problem
that I was not aware of -- at least in something like 10 upgrades of my
production system on MySQL, I have never lost an index.
