That's OK; it doesn't have to, unless your machine has hardware
installed which is supported only under a 2.6 kernel and without which
you cannot run your restore.

You're not going to be running your system, post-restore, from the
kernel on the Knoppix CD.  So as long as you can restore the system
while booted from that CD, it doesn't matter whether the CD has a 2.6
kernel or not.  You're going to boot from the CD, restore your hard
disk, configure lilo or grub (as the case may be) if necessary, then
reboot from the hard disk using the kernel you just restored onto it.
