Hello,

Bacula just stumped me; I started it off appending to
a volume. Bacula diligently stated that it would have
to skip to the unused block (I'd un/mounted the
volume, so it back at 1). However, as it seeked, the
drives' LCD said "WRITING" instead of "SEEKING" which
it usually says during such chores.
It wouldn't have written over the previous data it was
to append to, would it? Hopefully the LCD just lied...

I don't know about your LEDs, but mine never lied :-) but it might have been a misunderstanding...

Anyway, you can check the volume using the bls or btape commands and see if they contain what is expected. You would expect a bacula tape label right at the start, and following it the jobs written to the volume (according to the catalog) should be identifiable.

I did have a case where bacula overwrote it's own label, but I guess that I helped it doing that :-(

I wanted to check it myself with a verify job. I've
run it right after a backup job, but cannot figure out
how to verify the second-to-latest backup. Any ideas? Thanks!

That's not possible, as far as I know.

Arno
