Could you tell me where? It is a rather obvious concept, but I haven't seen anything really quite the same. I'd be interested to see what similar "projects" are doing. > actually i cant see any difference between this licence concept > which asks you to buy a licence if you want to make profit with the > software and "classical" commercial software which also allows private > users to use their software for free... Well, I started what I consider a classical commercial software company, and what I am proposing is *totally* different, so I don't understand your statement. Microsoft is a prime example of a classical commercial software company, but they don't allow private users to use their software for free. Perhaps what you mean is that *some* commercial software companies allow private users to use their software for free, which is certainly the case. > > i have to admit i have not really thought it through, but what i think > enabled > the great success of open source was software like linux and mysql which > was from > the beginning also free for commercial ideas... > Although BSD and other licenses are free for commercial users, I wouldn't say that is the case for GPL. For a commercial software company as opposed to a service company, GPL is somewhat of a nightmare. It is true they don't have to pay for it, but it comes at a heavy price -- all your software that "touches" or "uses" GPL software must be GPL or otherwise Open Software as well. -- Best regards, Kern ("> /\ V_V ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is Sponsored by the Better Software Conference & EXPO September 19-22, 2005 * San Francisco, CA * Development Lifecycle Practices Agile & Plan-Driven Development * Managing Projects & Teams * Testing & QA Security * Process Improvement & Measurement * http://www.sqe.com/bsce5sf _______________________________________________ Bacula-users mailing list Bacula-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/bacula-users
