I'm fine with the way I chose it. There WERE differential backups before
08/22 in the blow example, however. When I try to look at the restore
tree, though, it only will work when I choose "Before" and the date of
the most recent full backup.

Why is it only looking for full backups? Is this not supposed to work on
Incremental/Differentials?
The "restore" command the way you used it looks for a "current" backup as of
the date you specified, which means a Full followed by any Diff, and Incs
that apply. If you want to use individual backups, you must do a restore
then select the option that permits you to enter JobIds. Once you enter
them, you can then select the files you want. There probably should be a
command line option that allows you to enter JobIds but there is none.
