This looks like your mail server (or bsmtp) is not set up correctly.
Have you a mail server running on the machine that the director uses? If
not, you need to give the mail server name and (probably) credentials
to bsmtp.
Try running bsmtp as configured from the command line. Try the -h and -f
options. Use the -d switch to read what happens.
If all else fails, you can use telnet to connect to a mail server. You
can even use bacula without bsmtp and instead call mail or mutt or
whatever locally configured mail user agent you have directly or through
a wrapper script... the first thing is to know your mail configuration.

I can see that this has to do with dropping messages in the mailbox, so maybe
it's rights, maybe it's directory location. I don't know.
Incidentally, this is running on RH 9.0.
