Well, I received no messages at all. So it is a little hard to give more
information, but I guess the assumption that the messages were lost
because the message spool file could not be written to is reasonable in
this situation.

Hmmm. Yea, not so good ...

Well, I thought about this a little and I think there could be one way to solve this at least partly: When you spool a message and can't write it to disk, can you feed an error to the message command directly?

Of course, when even that doesn't work anymore because you (or rather I :-) filled the mail spool partition that doesn't help, but it might give one more level of error notification.

I don't plan to spend any time, with
perhaps some time for more documentation, building a fail safe operating
system if you over fill your working directory.

In fact I didn't expect you to improve the OS - but still I think that
there could be an improvement in bacula. Probably the SD has some
threshold when deciding if there is spool space left, and something like
checking if there are some MB left might be helpful in such a situation.

The problem is that determining what spool space is left is *very* OS and device dependent -- it is not something I want to get into at least not at this stage -- perhaps later.

Ok, I didn't know it was very OS dependent...
