There is the -p option for the SD and most of the tools that allows them to 
read through a *very* limited set of problems. It also doesn't require a 
Volume name.  However, if the tape has been overwritten or otherwise damaged, 
it is probably pretty much hopeless unless someone writes some very specific 
code ...
