I'll let others provide solutions to your problems, but I suspect that if you 
start sending specific error messages, you will get much better responses. If 
you tell me: "it failed to rewind (or words to that effect)", I wouldn't be 
able to help you.  If on the other hand, you send Bacula's output, things 
would most likely be different.

Well, either SuSE ES 9 or RH 9.1 should be fine, but since you have already 
changed to RH 9, you should be aware that it is a bit old and probably will 
not be supported by RH very long.  Were I in your place, I would switch to 
Fedora FC3 and apply their updates. I would not switch to FC4.  FC3 is a very 
stable recent system and should be supported at least a year, possibly 18 
months.
