Yesterday, I changed the slots of 4 volumes from zero to 2,3,4,5.
I don't understand how you changed them. Using update slots command, with scan, with barcodes, or using the label or add command, or even via SQL in the catalog?
The volume with slot 2 was already Full when I changed it from slot 0 to slot 2. The other volumes that I specified with slots 3, 4, and 5 were still empty / not-used ( except for the label of course ). These empty volumes were then marked as Purged. I noticed that, these Purged volumes with non-zero slot numbers ... after they have been loaded into the drive by the autochanger, their slot number changed to 0. Okay, that's probably because it IS in slot 0 ( the drive itself ). However, after the volume has been marked as Full, it is still showing slot 0.
During regular operations of bacula, this should not happen. (Although I'm only assuming regular operations...). I understand that bacula loaded the tapes from slots 3,4,5, wrote data onto them until they were full, and then unloaded them, right?
After that, the volumes should be marked with the slot they are in (if they are loaded in a drive, they should still have the same slot number,!) and Inchanger should be set to 1.
Now, I did experience something similar very few times. As I didn't find a way to reproduce that, I didn't file a bug report. What happened: I changed the magazine in an autochanger and gave the command 'update slots=2-6 scan storage=XXX'. Slot 1 contains a cleaning tape, which I always move from mag to mag, by the way. Now, the tape in slot 6 was already full, so after the following mount command, bacula unloaded slot 6 and loaded something else.
After that I used a query to list the slot usage, and found that slot 6 was empty according to the catalog. The interesting part is that the data from before was also cleared, which should only happen when the new slot usage is recorded.
To make things more interesting (and a bug report less useful) is that I patched the slot handling code...
Perhaps you fond that same thing? Arno
