Hi,

A newbie here ... Just thinking of a worst case scenario ....

What if you need to restore from a tape / volume on another machine that is
not running bacula ( and therefore does not have the catalog ) ? ... For
example, you've taken a volume from a remote production site and want to
restore some files to your local development / test site.

1) Is there enough information on the volume to determine which volume / tape
is needed to restore from ?

2) Assuming I know which volume / tape to restore from, can u easily restore
from the volume / tape using the native utlities on the OS ( e.g tar, cpio,
dump, etc .. ) ? Does bacula add a TOC somewhere on the volume with
descriptions on how to restore using native utilities just in case ?

Regards,

John
