Hello,

Due to the increasing volume of spam, I have now restricted this list to member only posting.

Good. My junk folder was filling faster than before during the last days...

All posts by non-subscribers will, unfortunately, be treated (at least for the moment) automatically by a program. I'll try to send them back to the poster with a message, but I'm not sure that works ...

Don't do that. You can be almost absolutely sure that the sender addresses of spam are forged, and you would annoy many people. Either first try to filter spam (of course, you would do that and still allow non-subscribers to post if this were an option) or have the mail rejected when it is posted, so the upstream mailer has to decide what to do :-)

Probably the best solution, though, would be to simply drop the messages and, to inform people of that, post a regular information notice to the list. And make a note in the manual.

People reading the archives or using gmane would (hopefully) notice these.
