Recreating /proc by hand during a bare metal restore is a nuisance but not a showstopper. Recreating all the special nodes/devices/files in /dev is a PITA. In all fairness, AMANDA doesn't claim to be a disaster recovery system, just a backup system. It is this case that made the difference clear to me.
