Still, the version information is not really precise...When I had had the first trouble I'd been using 1.36.2, so I upgrade to 1.36.3, it means my 2nd problem was with version 1.36.3.
Ok, so we have to assume then that there is no possibility of problems with the file system or disk drives... still, I'd recommend a close look to the system's log and do a file system check. Just to be sure.
Nothing bad happened.
Ok, now I understand :-) Have you tried bls and bextract on the volume file?
No.
Have you tried other volume files, or other files to restore?
Yes. Same problem.
After all, this was only one file you tried to restore and it is some time ago.Yes, it is, but it was the first time trouble and 2nd has been the same, but with different backup file (volume I mean).
Has this volume file ever been "moved around", e.g. put on DVD, deleted from disk, later been copied back? This is, from my experience, one of the best ways to break your backups - with DVDs you *always* should expect data errors.
No, this volume was not copied, move or anything else.
Where's that traceback from?
bacula-sd
I rather thought about starting the sd with debug outbut, something like bacula-dir -d 100 -c /etc/bacula/bacula-sd >> /var/log/bacula-sd-debug.txt so you can verify the process of the restore.
Answer above.
Now, I assume that you did some test restores when you set up bacula (or is this still the test?) and those worked. Have you changed anything in
Yes, you right.
between? Bacula versions, sd configuration, operating system, file systems, hard disks - anything? Because, apart from the problem ofYes, I've changed bacula version from 1.36.2 to 1.36.3 after first trouble. But nothing else.
bacula aborting a restore when it encounters a checksum error, you really need to find out where that comes from.
I would like to.
From personal knowledge as well as considering the missing error reports I assume that this is not a problem created by bacula screwing up the data, but rather the result of data errors at a level "below" bacula.Hmm, as of one email above, where Andrew Paterson thinks I am absolutely stupid :-( talked about problem with file changed during backuping. I thought about that in different manner... It is possible if some file changed during backuping, that it would cause checksum error on whole backup file (volume?) if so, there is no way to backup when system is used and it is my suggestion from backup soft. I can't reboot to single user modes and do backup every day. ;-)
Thanks to talking about that. I would like to find solution, if some exists.
