I re-read the ReleaseNotes and ChangeLog, both before and after coffee. The release notes in the 1.37.18 source tarball claim to be for 1.37.16. Typo or no changes worth mentioning in 1.37.17 and 1.37.18? They mention the SD <-> DIR protocol change and DB format 9 change. All installations are from scratch, 1.37.16 self installing executable for Windows, build from 1.37.18 source tarball for Linux, so the format changes should not be a problem. I found no release notes for the 1.37.16 installation on Windows. The ChangeLog indicates 1.37.16 was released twice, on 03May05 and 07May05. No mention of 1.37.17 or 1.37.18. Nothing in any release going back to 1.37.14 that appears to bear on the problem at hand. On to what I found. Initially I had trouble authenticating the Window FD from the Linux DIR. I made sure all the config files were saved in the editor (they were) and restarted the Linux daemons. This time I could authenticate the Windows FD, but an actual run terminated with error. Below is a bconsole session showing authentication succeeding. "newhope" is the Windows FD, "pogo" is the Linux server. "bearhouse.lan" is the internal LAN domain name. ./bconsole Connecting to Director pogo:9101 1000 OK: pogo-dir Version: 1.37.18 (08 May 2005) Enter a period to cancel a command. *status client=newhope-fd Using default Catalog name=MyCatalog DB=bacula Connecting to Client newhope-fd at newhope.bearhouse.lan:9102 newhope-fd Version: 1.37.16 (03 May 2005) Windows 98 MVS 4.10.67766446 Daemon started 13-May-05 01:04, 0 Jobs run since started.
