Hi,

Hello, I've got a FreeBSD 5.4-prerelease server that has an old HP Colorado 5gb drive in it. I'm not 100% sure that i've got it configured right with bacula, i keep getting write errors from btape. I believe i'm right so i'm going on the assumption that the drive has died. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with any of the following types of tape drives:
Basically, if you suspect problems with the drives, you should tes them using dd or tar first - serious problems should be detected that way, and working through baculas setup and a drive check at the same time is likely to give the wrong results.
HP Dell / Seagate ST224000N DDS3 scsi Tape Drive
I don't see why this shouldn't work - any reasonable new SCSI tape drive should work.
COMPAQ 20/40GB DLT 340745-001 DLT drive
Considering most DLT drives are quite similar this should work as well.
Hp SCSI drive model HP5647A
That one I don't know... the colorado drive?
Hp drive model HPT4000 DAT
DDS drive again - should work. I've got some seriously old DDS drives here, and I can use them with bacula.
If anyone has any of these drives i'd appreciate any experiences, also any suggestions on the colorado would be appreciated, i've tried giving btape a minimum and maximum block size, no good. This is with bacula 1.36_2.
Well, from my experience:
I managed to set up some really old tape drives, even a SCSI-1 QIC drive, and although finding the right settings took me some time it does work now.
To help you further, we will need some more details about the btape failures: Which test does fail? What does btape print? What's the device setup for the bacula-sd as well as for the OS?
Post that information and I think you will get some helpful hints!
Arno
Thanks. Dave.
