Most linux people probably have bash pretending to be /bin/sh, and
a fresh perl is only about 30% bigger than a fresh bash in memory
footprint on the RH9 machine I just tried it on.

Of course, this is because bash is ridiculously bloated, not because
perl is slim.

Actually I think I stuck to sh because I have the vague hope of trying
to see if bacula will run on the nslu2 box I'm putting in place to
hold the backups, and so keeping perl out of everything I do with
bacula seemed like a good idea at the time.
