Hi all,

I am setting up a server that will soon be moved into a data centre, and I won't have easy access to it to do regular backups. My intention is to download backups from that server to a local machine and burn the backups to DVD-R. I was looking into Bacula and various other backup solutions (including Amanda, flexbackup, etc...) and Bacula is the only one that comes any close to doing what I'd like to do. Setup looks simple, and there is even some minimal documentation about how to backup to DVD, although (correct me if I'm wrong) support for this is absent in the current release version of Bacula.

I suppose my main question is how stable can I expect the CVS version to be? Can I mix an match parts of the CVS version and the released version (i.e. CVS for the SD, 1.36.2 for the rest)? Would someone be prepared to hold my hand while set everything up?

Another reason to look at Bacula, for me, is that it's high time I start backing up the rest of my networked machines, and Bacula should make that rather simple once it's all set up.

All the involved machines are running Debian Sarge, with possibly a Mac OS X and a Windows XP client to be added at a later date.

Many thanks,
Chris
