hello to everybody,
I am a bacula 's user since 1 year and I think it's a very good and nice utility for backup a mixed linux/windows network.
But there is one thing that I haven't understand : is it bacula a correct strument also for restore critical situation when as a machine was crashed ?
Ok, let's call this "bare metal recovery"...
for example : I have 2 linux server with bacula installed that make opposite backUps :
Usually I wouldn't do this... managing two machinesfor backup seems unneccessary as long as you've got to have a procedure for restoring bacula itself anyway... but, naturally, your needs may be others than mine.
but .. when the client-machine is down.. (for crash.. or other problems) what Can I resume the client file that resied on the crashed machine ??
the client daemon is down ..
You basically need a minmaly system setup with the bacula client (and, for completeness' sake, a client setup in the director, so you can modify your restore to go to he right place).
For linux, one possible solution is available as part of bacula :-)
For windows, you can try Barts PE windows solution. Just use google to find it - I don't have the address bookmarked :-)
Then, you start your client from the resue CD, prepare the harddisk, start the bacula file daemon, start the restore to the new, empty partitions, and wait. Some of these steps might happen automatically, depending on the resue system.

Anyone can I help me ?
thank in advance , marco
