The tray monitor connection problems were caused by password mismatches. The passwords between the file daemon, storage daemon, and director are all correct, however, with the SuSE 9.2 precompiled packages, the passwords for the tray monitor don't match any of the three. Set all monitor passwords matching, and the problem is solved.
