Hi I've been struggling to get fakeroot working properly together with packagemaker on osx 10.6 snow leopard(1). I think we're better off sticking to OSX built-ins instead of depending on third party software for the packaging process.
I now found a way to automate the creation of packagemaker files (.pmdoc) without running the GUI. Those files then are processed from the command line using packagemaker's --doc argument(2). The downside of this mechanism is that it's not possible anymore to generate installer packages on systems prior to OSX 10.5. It's still possible to deploy packages generated by this script on OSX 10.4 though. Patches against branch master attached. It's easily possible to cherry-pick them back to Release-3.0.3. Cheers Lorenz 1) http://lists.apple.com/archives/carbon-dev/2009/Oct/msg00092.html 2) http://developer.apple.com/Mac/library/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/packagemaker.1.html
