The indicator applet in Karmic doesn't show the real user name, but it shows the login name instead.
Many teachers like me use generic login names for the students (e.g. class-A) and tell them to supply their real names e.g. with `userinfo`. This way, and up until Jaunty, the teacher was able to see the student names when he was over their PC. Please consider reimplementing this functionality in indicator-applet for Lucid, as it was previously implemented in fusa.
