Sorry for the time I took to reply, I am not used anymore to mailing list
and lost myself in parameters of my gmail/mail client account.

Thanks for your answer. I understand what's going on now and found a solution.

It's quite cumbersome awesome is defaulting to some config files (in this case
the theme files) that eventually end up rewriting some rc files unrelated to
awesome. I believe the wallpaper background c/sh-ould be set outside of the
theme file. The theme could be updated without affecting a user's personnal
wallpaper. 

Moreover, if awesome parse the rc.lua without finding errors that would
prevent  it to run it will sometimes switch back to default rc.lua if one of
the 'require(d)' files contains error. So a mistake in a widget could change
one's .fehbgrc.
