About once a week I get a window mananger / x lockup. This wasn't happening with
my previous window manager, fluxbox, running on the same hardware, same X, and

In the video I accidentally said my pc locked, but that's not the case. I can
ssh into the machine and it's running perfectly fine. What I do next is run a
sync and then reboot.

Once upon a time, there was a bug in gtk where it somehow managed to grab the
X11 server and then deadlock (after grabbing the server, it won't process
requests from anything else).
You don't happen to know what you did right before the freezes? E.g. resizing a
window via the little thingie that gtk puts in the lower corner of its windows?
Clicking on a chromium tab and moving it elsewhere? Anything half-fancy?

I clicked on a chrome tab to switch to it.. but I wasn't attempting to
move it.
When I get this problem it's generally from the result of an action...
like opening a tab, raising a window, launching a program.
