Awesome + Ubuntu Unity (2D)?

Does anyone know if there's a way to get awesome to play well with the
Ubuntu Unity (2D) panel? I could probably get this to work just by figuring
out how to:
1) Get the panel (unity-2d-panel) to display on all tags.
2) move the Awesome panel to the bottom so it won't be covered up.
3) Disable the global menu in unity (I think I may have figured out how to
do this).
