I don't how do u start awesome.
If u start it in .xinitrc like me, u'll find the real command to
execute, eg. "exec awesome" so that log will output to stderr - TTYx.
Than u can swtich to TTYx wich combination of "Ctrl + Alt + Fx".
Otherwise in using X login manager to start awesome such as SLIM, look
at that log file will find more information.
