On the command line I use picocom. It is less powerful than minicom, but I
find it more reliable. With minicom I had several issues when I thought I
had changed a setting and found out that in reality it was not applied to
the serial device.

As a GUI client I use cutecom, which is a very basic, but functional
client, inspired by Bray Terminal.
