I propose to move the following packages to Jakarta Commons:
1) org.apache.avlaon.excalibur.collections 2) org.apache.avalon.excalibur.concurrent
3) org.apache.avalon.excalibur.cli
4) org.apache.avalon.excalibur.io
(That code has no dependencies except on java.io)
If all of these are *equally* as usable to the following java contexts....
1) Servlet 2) Applet 3) Gui Application 4) Server comp (as at present)
... then +1 from me. Let's wait for Peter to get back from his break before we rush into this though...
Having said that I am not that active in Excalibur. Also politically I see that many "Commoners" are warm to Avalon.
Also worth considering is the fact that we (Avalon) have a problem of branding. We're not yet convincing many other to base their (primarily) server apps on Avalon projects. Perhaps we should consider the opposite approach - move some commons code to Excalibur and ramp up our branding effort.
