It is working for me. You definately have that port blocked. Suggestions ....
1) You are running it, a previous version of it, or something like it somewhere else at the same time.
2) ZoneAlarm might be blocking java.exe/you (etc)
I'd reboot and try again if I were you. If you are still convinved it is avalon. Do a six line class that tests the ServerSocket in the main method.
http://www.sysintervals.com is a tad more useful that TaskMgr, but alas no open socket stats.
